JAMESTOWN, N.C. (Feb. 9,2021) – The Guilford Technical Community College Foundation recently received a donation from Friends Homes, Inc., to establish an endowed scholarship for GTCC’s nursing program and to support the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program.

Friends Homes made an additional donation to the Friends Homes Nursing Scholarship to prefund the scholarship for the first two years to allow the permanent endowment to grow.

Guided by Quaker principles, Friends Homes serves approximately 630 residents at its continuing care retirement community located in Greensboro, N.C., which offers an environment that encourages independence and a sense of wholeness, wellness, and security.

“In the midst of Friends Homes current expansion project our Board of Trustees was discussing ways that we can give back to our community and pay it forward,” said Arnie Thompson, executive director of Friends Homes, Inc. “Our existing relationship with GTCC allows their nursing students to complete on site clinical work at our campuses that counts toward their degree requirements, we wanted to extend this additional monetary support to say thank you for all that GTCC does to train and support the health care workers that are our future. We need them now more than ever.”

“You will never know how many lives you will touch with this generous gift,” said Warren Crow, the director of health careers and nursing assistant program at GTCC. “The hurdles that our students often face feel insurmountable to them at times. Thank you for helping to clear the pathway so they can continue their studies, find a career they are passionate about and serve our community.”
